One alternative to the cooling system for a large area is District Cooling. District Cooling is a centralized area cooling concept, where cooling is produced in a cooling chiller plant and the chilled water produced here is supplied via underground pipes to buildings located in areas/areas that need it. From the cold water pipe, the cooling process is continued into the building through the pipe inside the building and ends at the AHU/FCU. District Cooling is a more sustainable, reliable, and energy effective solution that works by aggregating cooling demand, ideally between multiple residential or commercial buildings in a larger network. The cooling grid can work with power taken from a variety of renewable or clean energy sources, all the while using thermal energy storage technologies to store and supply highly compressed cooled air. These highly efficient systems, if implemented properly, may ease or even accelerate the transition to renewables and cleaner power sources.

Here are the benefits and advantages of the district cooling system for cooling in an area compared to conventional individual cooling systems installed in each building:

1. The total cooling capacity with District cooling is lower than the total individual cooling system capacity of the entire building. For areas with several types of building use with different operating hour profiles (eg offices, hospitals, hotels, meeting halls, retail, etc.), the reduction in District Cooling capacity will be very significant up to 20% smaller than individual cooling. .

2. Savings in investment costs: due to lower total capacity and the price per unit with a larger capacity requires a lower price & cheaper US/TR.

3. Greater efficiency will be obtained mainly because in district cooling a larger chiller unit is used which is generally more efficient than a unit with a smaller capacity.

4. Save space in the building because the cooling plant space is one, so architects can freely design a building without being disturbed by the mechanical cooling room.

5. By combining all equipment into one, maintenance and operations will be easy and centralized. Management will be more economical and easier.

6. The District Cooling system allows building managers to focus on their own business and affairs, and not have to think about operating and maintaining the cooling system.

7. The integrated area of ​​management enables the cost sharing of district cooling to be equal to the sharing of electricity and water costs. The distribution of operational & maintenance costs can be charged proportionally to the amount of cooling used by each building.
